Ainars Šablovskis studied saxophone performance with prof. Artis Sīmanis. He graduated Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) in 2002 and obtained a master’s degree from the same institution in 2004. He is a prizewinner of several competitions – in 1998 he received the 2nd prize in the Latvian music college concert series-competition “Nova Nomina”; in 1999 he won the 1st prize in the Best Chamber Ensemble Competition of JVLMA and the 2nd prize in the Yamaha Competition for Woodwind Instruments; he also won the 2nd prize in the saxophone competition “The Brilliant Note – 2000” in Staicele, Latvia.
In 2000 Ainars honed his professional skills at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm with professor Christer Johnsson. He has participated in masterclasses of Jørgen Bove, Arno Bornkamp and Claude Delangle. He has been a member of the Latvian National Opera Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Professional Symphonic Band “Riga” and Riga Festival Orchestra. Ainars is a member of the Riga Saxophone Quartet since 2001. Presently Ainars Sablovskis teaches at Pāvuls Jurjāns Music School and at JVLMA, where he is also the Head of Department of Wind instruments. Starting from 2021 Director of Jazeps Medins Riga Secondary Music School.
